Modern slavery and forced labor are persistent and deeply embedded global challenges. Despite international legal prohibitions, millions of people around the world—including migrants in developed countries—remain trapped in exploitative labor conditions. One of the most significant, yet often obscured, drivers of this phenomenon is the corporate sector. Multinational corporations (MNCs) and their supply chains play a central role in perpetuating forced labor through practices that prioritize profit over human rights, often operating in regulatory gray zones or in jurisdictions with weak enforcement.

This course provides sociology of law students with a critical analysis of the corporate role in modern slavery and forced labor, particularly as it relates to migrant populations in developed countries. It explores the legal frameworks, institutional gaps, mechanisms of exploitation, and the obligations of corporations under domestic and international law.
